Forensic Odontology

Cold Case File Help requested to identify an apparent homicide victim found near
South Bend Indiana.
The ADA has requested assistance on behalf of the St. Joseph County police in identifying a body recovered from behind a Howard Johnson’s Hotel in June of 1985. The hotel was located at the Indiana toll Road exit 76th.

Forensic Dental Analysis:
Dental Features evaluated by Dr. David Douglas, and Dr. Harvey Weingarten (Forensic Odontologists in South Bend, IN):  " The postmortem dental charting done Feb. 2, 2006, showed: Tooth No. 1, vertical impaction; No. 2, occlusal, occlusal amalgam restorations; No. 3, occlusal, occlusal amalgam restorations; Nos. 4-13, 20-29, virgin teeth or no information available; No. 14, occlusal, occlusal amalgam restorations; No. 15, occlusal amalgam restoration; No. 16, vertical impaction; No. 17, mesioangular impaction; No. 18, occlusal amalgam restoration; No. 19, occlusal amalgam restoration; No. 30 and No. 31, occlusal amalgam restoration; and No. 32, mesioangular impaction."

White male, early-to-mid 20s, 5-feet and 11-inches tall, 160 pounds,
long, light brown hair and mustache

New York State Police seek assistance from profession

The New York State Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating the discovery of human remains on the Merrick Ave. westbound entrance ramp to the Southern State Parkway, North Merrick, Nassau County. The remains were discovered July 9, 2008, with an estimated date of death from two weeks to two months. A forensic examination of the remains identified the victim as a female, white or Hispanic, 35 to 50 years of age, 5'5" plus or minus 2 ½ inches. The victim possessed a unique dental characteristic which is reported by Forensic odontologist Henry Dondero as:

"Dental examination revealed a complete (#1-32), fully erupted dentition with several restorations. A supernumerary bony impacted tooth was found distal to both mandibular third molars."
